MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTIONS PROGRAM

This temporary part time position is located at the Keele site, but may include additional support/travel to the Finch and/or Church sites. This position may also require some evening duties.


HOURS OF WORK (SUBJECT TO CHANGE):
  • Monday to Friday, some evenings may be required.
  • This position is currently for the Keele site (subject to change). Cross site coverage is required.

DUTIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):
  • Provision of/supervision to other professionals re: individual and group psychotherapy activities for Adult patients with diverse diagnoses.
  • Clinical support/resource consultant to various professionals.
  • Support for other clinical staff delivering assessment or treatment interventions.
  • Participation in evaluative approaches for programmatic review and outcome of therapy.
  • Other duties as may be required and negotiated.

PRE-REQUISITES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Current registration as a Psychologist/Psychological Associate with the College of Psychologists of Ontario required.
  • Current BCLS/CPR certification required.
  • Minimum four (4) years recent experience in Adult Mental Health required. Experience in Developmental Psychology is an asset.
  • Experience in CBT and IPT preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in the Cognitive and Behavioural assessments and treatment of psychiatric patients.
  • A thorough knowledge of psychometric testing.
  • Well developed skills in individual and group counseling. Experience in family counseling would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of the development of programmatic reviews as well as therapy outcomes.
  • Strong knowledge of community resources.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills, with an ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal, written and computer skills required.
  • A positive attendance record.

Positions Available:
  • Psychologist/Psychological Associate (1.9 permanent positions)
  • Psychologist/Psychological Associate (0.5 temporary position) (Temporary from September 2, 2010 to June 30, 2011)

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Chief Psychologist, this position assumes responsibility for providing comprehensive psychological assessments for elementary and secondary students in both Guelph and Orangeville areas, crisis response, behavioural programming, community liaison, and school team participation.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with children, the school team, families, special education support services and community agencies.

Qualifications:
A thorough knowledge of learning disabilities, developmental disorders, behavioural problems, and relevant children=s mental health issues is vital. Registered psychologists or psychological associates in clinical/educational psychology will be given preference, although candidates who have qualified for supervised practice with the College of Psychology will be considered. Experience working for a school board or in children=s mental health is a definite asset.

Salary Range: Band 11 - $99,976 - $119,019

Work Schedule: 35 hours/week, 12 months/year

Qualifications:
As Supervisor of Special Services, you will be a dynamic leader able to work effectively in a team environment. You will have strong interpersonal skills and are able to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively. You have a minimum of a Masters Degree and are registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (Psychologist or Psychological Associate) and have a minimum of 6 to 8 years working in a school board setting. Substantial experience working on a multidisciplinary team is essential and supervisory or management experience will be considered an asset. A valid driver’s license is required.

Position Summary: The successful candidate will report directly to the Superintendent of Education – Student Services. Key duties will include:
  • Supervision of a multi-disciplinary team of professional staff (Psychology, Speech/Language, Social Work, Child and Youth Counsellors and assigned Educational Assistants)
  • Consultation regarding complex cases
  • Participation in the Special Education management team at a regional and area level
  • Liaison with community agencies and other school board departments
  • Management of key portfolios or projects as assigned

Stevenson, Waplak & Associates is a private group of mental health care professionals representing the disciplines of Psychology, Social Work, Psychiatry, Medicine and Counselling. We provide counselling and assessment services and consultative services to Individuals & Couples, Children & Teens, Families & Groups, and Corporations. We also provide clinical services to our partners, Quinte Children’s Homes - a Treatment Foster Care provider - and Applewood Academy for Progressive Learning – a private school for children whose emotional and behavioural problems have undermined their academic performance. We primarily serve the South East region of Ontario and the Quinte region in particular. Our offices are located in Belleville, Ontario. Belleville and the Quinte Region provide a comfortable blend of rural and urban living, with easy access to Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of the Psychological Associate position is to enhance the clinical services provided by Stevenson, Waplak & Associates, Quinte Children’s Homes and their subsidiary companies and programs. The Psychological Associate provides clinical services to the clients referred to Stevenson, Waplak & Associates. This position offers a wide range of clinical challenges with both children and adults, across a number of settings. The Psychological Associate will be expected to work closely with the other members of the multidisciplinary team (Clinical Director, Program Supervisors, Parent Therapists, Psychiatrists, Psychologists and associated outside community agencies) in planning, implementing and evaluating treatment for the clients of Stevenson, Waplak & Associates and related programs. The Psychological Associate will be expected to play a lead role in research within the programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assure that the vision and mission of Stevenson, Waplak & Associates are reflected in the clinical services delivered to clients;
  • Provide clients with effective case management and treatment services as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team;
  • Develop and manage research projects related to clinical and residential programs;
  • Ensure clinical programs meet or exceed licensing and accreditation requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge:
  • Masters or Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology from a university of recognized standing;
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) including strong counseling skills;
  • A strength based philosophical approach to the needs and capabilities of children and families.

Skills:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the selection, administration, scoring, psychometric characteristics and limitations of psychological and/or neuropsychological tests;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of diagnostic nosology, psychopathology and diagnostic issues;
  • Research/Grant proposal writing;
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.

Experience:
  • Experience in a supervisory capacity with psychology staff would be helpful.

REQUIRED CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a psychologist or psychological associate with the Ontario College of Psychologists; preferably involving children/adolescents and adults.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation process, as per our policies and procedures;
  • Possess a current, class G, Ontario drivers license and access to a personal vehicle;
  • Possess a valid automobile insurance policy, with liability limits of at least $2,000,000;
  • Ability to travel to other administration sites within southeastern Ontario.
